While we could not change the -dSAFER mode for current releases (7.04 AFPL and 6.53 GPL) we added -dPARANOIDSAFER that does prevent reading. Also to allow for job servers that may want to change paramters or open files, but still run "foreign" PostScript files with -dSAFER or -dPARANOIDSAFER turned on, it is now possible to enter SAFER mode (using .setsafe) and return to "wide open" mode via "restore". See the documentation on .runandhide in doc/ Language.htm. The changes are now in 7.04 (just released) and are in the GPL 6.53 release that is pending.
