There are various ways of doing this.
On my setup, I have a print queue on both the client and the server. So, I
run lpd on the client, too.
The client printcap looks like this:
z53|rp1:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/rp1:\
:rm=hammer2.jhammer.org:\
:rp=ps:\
:sh:mx#0:
With lpr -Prp1, This queue sends the jobs to server hammer2.jhammer.org
to the queue ps on that machine.
After you set up the printcap, run checkpc -f, and it might work.
