Thanks much! This looks like it will solve my problem.
A few comments:
As of 3.8.2, the lpq man page and the lpq "usage" message know nothing
of the "-v" option.
Section 19.6 of the HowTo ("lpq Requests") has the message string as:
\009printer [id]* \n LPRng extension- verbose
I think it should be octal.
Finally, since you, me, and probably lots of others are building
edifices around "lpq -v", it would be nice if its output format were
documented. To prevent surprises. I hate surprises.
