Ummm... I will think about it, but this one is pretty far down on my list. Now if you want to do the code and give me a PATCH (hint hint)... Make sure you test this... > > Having host aliases enables me (and possibly other people) to change printer > server hosts very quickly (just move host alias, then restart nscd and lpd on > new server [solaris]), without having to modify any printcap file (which are > NFS mounted and updated every night). Say what? but you have to restart all the systems that have DNS caches running... or am I losing it? > > Not a very big trouble, of course. Now, i know (and it was not in ChangeLog). Umm... sure enough, it is not there... > > Thanks again for the answer. > > PS: still with 3.8.8, the "done" jobs seem to accumulate in the spool (and in > lpq status), even with "done_jobs=1", "done_jobs_max_age=0" and > "save_when_done@", as reported by "lpc server". There was a &*()(*& small problem in that the server process did not remove the jobs until it had processed all of the queue entries. In LPRng 3.8.9 we have (from the CHANGES file, thank heavens I put this in :-): Forced a rescan of the input queue when the number of done jobs exceeds 'done_jobs' or the time since the first done job exceeds done_jobs_max_age . This solves a silly problem that shows up when you have a slew of jobs in a queue, the subserver is processing them, and no new jobs arrive while it is processing them. Under these conditions the 'done jobs' would not have been removed until all were done. If you were printing 1000 jobs then you could not submit any new jobs, even though you have done 999 of them... :-) Sigh... these boundary conditions are the pits. > > BD > > -- > | Bertrand DECOUTY | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] | > | IRISA - INRIA (Atelier) | PHONE : 0299847346 / 0299847100 | > | Campus de Beaulieu | FAX : +33 (0) 299847171 | > | F-35042 Rennes Cedex - FRANCE | http://www.irisa.fr/ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- YOU MUST BE A LIST MEMBER IN ORDER TO POST TO THE LPRNG MAILING LIST The address you post from MUST be your subscription address If you need help, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (or lprng-requests or lprng-digest-requests) with the word 'help' in the body.
