Why does this always happen to me? :)

We recently tried to install LPRng 3.8.12 on Solaris 8. Back to the old
hell again.

lpd is not writing to log files, accounting files, etc. anymore. checkpc
doesn't complain about anything.
"lpc reread" simply exits with a high ascii character and doesn't send the
SIGHUP, however "lpc reread all" appears to work.
"lpc printcap eva" for instance, returns nothing under 3.8.12, but works
under 3.8.6.

Banner pages, well, don't. We upgraded from 3.8.6 because we were trying to
figure out why banner pages were not being generated.

When we went to 3.8.12, everything that WAS working stopped working --
including the fact that ifhp was apparently not being called either since
text output started stairstepping.

Needless to say, we're back at 3.8.6, sans banner pages.

Anyone have any ideas? Is this a solaris only thing?

I'll attach our printcap file to this message... if anyone wants to see the
banner script I'll email it to you -- it's rather long (lots of postscript).
We're doing the testing on the printer named "eva"... please do not be
offended by the horrible mess that is our current printcap -- once things
WORK everything will be cleaned up.

lpd.conf is all default except for:

force_localhost@
sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P
lf=/var/lpd/log/%P.errs
af=/var/lpd/log/%P.acct
if=/usr/local/libexec/filters/ifhp

Thanks in advance.
