Hi,
We get it too. I was talking to a guy from HP about a number
of problems we were having and he happened to mention, do you
ever get the "79.00FE Printer Error".
I hope I'm not giving away any secrets but he explained what's
causing it - having to do with a communications problem and how
the interpreter is hanging on to a scrap of incomplete code. I
didn't understand exactly but he suggested doing a "cold reset"
of the printer, a simple reboot is not sufficient.
A "cold reset" sets the printer to *ALL* factory settings -
just like it was when it came out of the box. I can't find
a reference to it now but I vaguely recall reading about it
somewhere years ago.
At any rate he says hold the "go" button down when you power
on. Everything it had is gone. He was talking about the 4000s
but he says it's good for (a list followed which included the
8150s and the 4Si and bunch of others). It's worth a try.
If anyone has a ps file that reliably causes the problem could
they put it in their ftp and let us know about it. Chances are
that what causes a problem for one printer will not for another
because that "scrap of code" is probably different in each
instance but I'd still like to try it.
