Yes for sure it is pingable and resolvable. I did included this fake name in the mail for clarity. The true name of the printer is resolvable. Moreover, the problem remains even when I specify an IP address instead of the name.
I've tried to put some probe (e.g. tcpdump) on the server to see when packets are sent; nothing is sent to the printer. Can you "ping printer_FQDN"? errol -----Original Message----- From: Eric Devolder [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, July 17, 2002 9:59 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: LPRng: lpd process running foolish Hello, I'm posting to the mailing list because I've a problem I'm unable to solve by myself. I read the FAQ, browsed the web mailing list, but unfortunately didn't found an answer. The problem is quite simple. I've defined very basic printers in /etc/printcap. lp :sd=/var/spool/lp/lpd :lp=printer_FDQN%9100 :mx=0 As you can see, the entry is trivial. The printer is an HP laserjet. It is possible to send a job through the port 9100 with netcat. What happens when I launch a job is that the job is accepted by lpr, but nothing is printed. Moreover, a new lpd process is running and consumes 100% of the CPU time; it never dies and I need to 1 kill the process and 2 empty the queue. I've checked with several versions of LPRng, but no changes. Anyone an idea?
