hi dieter,
obviously the jetdirect interface is not responding

0. check the printer config
(at least 1 of my printers had the effect to switch its ip to
192.something after a power down)

1. try lpr direcly
2. upgrade LPRng to a more recent version

The name of the queue' in the box are normaly numbered 1,2,3,..
i guess rp=lp will be translated in to a default value checkout
what the manual says.

Subject: LPRng: Question about lprng
Date: 02/10/03 07:43

Dear listmembers,
I originally used to sent this one to Mr. Powell, propably this is the
better location to post such a question. Maybe someone on the list has an
Idea / a suggestion for me to help me with my misunderstanding and track
down why things do not work as I expect them to :-)

I am printing on a TCP/IP network having several printers around connected
to JetDirect boxes.
Using entries of the form:

remote-lj|remote printer on 172.16.6.204:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/remote-lj:\}
        :rm=172.16.6.204:\
        :rp=lp:\
        :bk:sh:mx#0:

works perfect, as long as I do not attempt to access printers
connected to different ports of the same JetDirect interface.
I had a look into the LPRng-Howto and tried to use:

remote-lja|remote printer on port 9100 of 172.16.6.237:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/remote-lja:\}
        :lp=172.16.6.237%9100:\
        :bk:sh:mx#0:

remote-dj|remote printer1 on port 9101 of 172.16.6.237:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/remote-dj:\}
        :lp=172.16.6.237%9101:\
        :bk:sh:mx#0:

but nothing goes. When printing from M$ via samba (I admit - I have to
...) the top most version using rm and rp is ok, the lower two versions are
said to be
inaccessible. LPR on Unix tries to send the job, but
lpc status tells me that the job keeps hanging in the queue
and nothing happens on the printer side.
What do I do wrong? Version is LPRng-3.7.4.

Many many thanks in advance, take care
