I'm brand new to lprng, and I'm trying to setup a server on a Debian box for Mac OS 9 clients to print to via LPR (not PAP). I have been reading through the HOWTO files and also this list.
Sometime back, David L. R. Houston reported that printing from Mac OS 9 was broken in version 3.8.4 of lprng. The message header is as follows: Date: WedJan9,2002 10:51 am Subject: LPRng: Fixed - 3.8.4 is the problem (was Printing from non UNIX clients possible?) I'm using 3.8.10, so I looked through the changelog to see if this had been fixed. I couldn't find anything real promising. So far, I can't print from OS 9 using LaserWriter 8.5.1 or 8.7.1 but I can print from OS X using CUPS. This could very well be due to my total ignorance of lprng. However, before I spend hours debugging and reading, do you think I should downgrade to 3.8.1 as David did?
