Just two things that occurred to me when trying to reproduce your problems on one of our 4050's running the same firmware as your 8000: - I cannot set the syslog server either by tftp config nor by telnet config. The telnet config gives the error: "Parameter read-only: set by DHCP server." So your only chance may be to configure the syslog server in the DHCP configuration (which is what we do, so we never had this particular problem). - While I can set the password from the telnet interface, the procedure is slightly different from setting the other config vars. The jetdirect will not accept "passwd: <new password>", so maybe there is no code there to parse this expression and you are out of luck. Perhaps there is a firmware update available for the jetdirects that don't work the way you want them to?
