The last time I built LPRng (3.8.14), I had to disable "-Werror" using the following patch.
When I said that LPRng worked well under AIX, I suppose I should have mentioned that it's a pain to build.
At the time, I also wrote the following notes, some of which may not matter if you are not using kerberized printing:
# --disable-shared is necessary so that LPRng doesn't build bogus stubs for # the Kerberos library routines, resulting in segfaults. In fact, Patrick # says unequivocally that one should not build LPRng shared under AIX.
# NOTE: MAKE SURE /var/run HAS THE PROPER PERMS!!! sudo chmod 755 /var/run
