I presume that HP 4100 and HP 4000 are both PostScript printers.
I think the problem is first of all the converter for PDF to PS.
I tested 3 converters on 2 different Lexmark printers (T630, T614)
on our Linux printserver:
pdf2ps (AFPL ghostscript V. 7.03):
PS file size 55 MB (!); only the first page is printed
pdftops (XPDF V. 2.03):
PS file size 1.6 MB - works, all 14 pages are printed
acroread (V. 5.0.5):
PS file size 1.6 MB - works, all 14 pages are printed
I recommend XPDF for PDF to PS conversion.
