Subject: LPRng: Conflict error on upgrade

Hi All,

I am trying to upgrade my Red Hat 9 server. This is my current
configuration:

      ghostscript-7.05.5-0.i386.rpm LPRng-3.8.19-3.1.i386.rpm
      gimp-print-4.2.5-2.i386.rpm LPRngTool-1.3.2-1.i386.rpm
      ifhp-3.5.6-1.i386.rpm

When I try to upgrade, I get the following error:

      rpm -Uvh LPRng-3.8.25-1.i386.rpm
      Preparing... #################################### [100%]
file /etc/printcap from install of LPRng-3.8.25-1
conflicts with file from package setup-2.5.25-1

Any ideas as to what this is about?

Many thanks,

The 'setup' package/rpm has a file called /etc/printcap. You need to use the force option to rpm to overwrite this file.

rpm --force ...

Hi Patrick,

If I like my current /etc/printcap, can I just ignore the error? Does the error
stop the installation?

How about pulling a page from the samba project and and modifying the rpm script
to create /etc/printcap.rpmnew, if there is a conflict?
