Looks like that the port 9100 is not open on the printer. Try
nmap lanier
Does
cat textfile | nc -w1 lanier 9100
work? Check in the web interface of the printer whether TCP/Socket printing is activated.

I eventually dumped foomatic and got it working with IFHP. Using LPRngtool was a great help.
