Hello fellow LPRng'ers: We are about to do a major upgrade of LPRng (3.5.1 --> 3.8.28) and ifhp (2.2.3 --> 3.5.17).
We have discovered the following regarding the content of lpd.perms and how it has changed from then till now: 1. Before we could have inline comments which was handy to us for troubleshooting. Here is an example: ACCEPT PRINTERS=photo*,poster*,phaser* SERVICE=P REMOTEUSER=username REMOTEHOST=hostname.domain # NETID=unique_id (note the comment at the end preceded by the pound sign) Now this breaks the perms file. We can now do a separate comment that would preceed this entry but we find it interesting that it no longer works before. Could this be a bug? 2. We have been hesitant to change until now because of only being able to have one lpd.perms file (before you could have a separate perms file for each printer if you wanted). What saved us is the PRINTER= field and to cleverly name our printers. For the record, the only reasonable documentation for this field can only be found in the example lpd.perms file. There is no mention in either the html or the pdf manuals to LPRng (which were my primary sources of information). Thought you should know.
