This needs so further comments: what we (at least I) agreed to is that at the moment rpm is the most common package format, and it makes sense that if ISVs want to ship software as a package they are best of doing so as an rpm, and we'll use alien to get it to install on a dpkg based sstem. We have not agreed that rpm is the end-all of package managers or that we will switch to using rpm.
