The GNU coding standards explain their reasoning. We are trying to solve a different problem, though, so their reasoning doesn't readily apply here (whether or not you agree with GNU on the issue). Some of the disadvantages that they cite for manual pages are probably even advantages in writing certain parts of specifications. Using texinfo manuals as the basis for a specification will probably require more work, but it may unfortunately be necessary for certain LSB commands. Dan
