Sorry for the previous incomplete mail :) I was looking at the way to handle start / stop different tasks in LSC server mode. We are now facing the issue of a standard server sofware : how to start / stop / restart / reconfigure / ... our tasks for a running instance of LSC. I would share with you some ideas about such needs and ways to implement a remote command mode to get you feedback and to see if it is time to put this and how.
I thought about RMI and JMX which seems to be two ways of putting remote call into a piece of server software : - in RMI, we are completely free but we must have to handle all different stuff (concurrency, object mapping, ...) - whereas in JMX, I think we can save a lot of time by using pre-existing features which are now included directly in JDK 1.5+ - any other protocol which i did not identify alredy (SNMP ?) If this is ok for you, I would like to try and write some JMX remote features such as starting / stopping / restarting a task / forcing sync with a dedicated id.
