I reworked logging during initial setup stages to fix this. Now, if we haven't yet read in the logback configuration file, we log errors to stderr, instead of using the logging subsystem. This fixes this problem, a nice error message is now displayed: <pre> Error: Could not understand where the configuration is! Try using -f option. Aborting. </pre> Fixed in 1.2 branch and trunk.
