That is about list price for the hardware. It will continue to go down and we've been getting very significant discounts.

Is anyone in the group looking at IB WANs as this is something that is on our list for later this year using IB -> IP transition at the switch, IP across the WAN to the remote switch fabric where the inverse occurs.

All,
I have recently been communicating with Voltaire, with the idea of buying a small IB switch to start familiarising ourselves with the technology. I don't know if an evaluation has been carried out as yet, how much the IB switches will cost, but from my little inquiry imagine we are looking at a good chunk of money for a 288 switch for downtown and 96+24 ports switches for the summit. Reading about IB I see quotes of $700 per port as a minimum. (~$1/2M). Obviously this is without any computer systems or mountain-base networking boxes.
I just want to raise the alert if this equipment has not been costed.
FYI Voltaire is confident IP wans will be available by 2010.

Hi Folks,

The telecon today is cancelled due to scheduling conflicts.
Let's pick up again next week, hopefully with Jeff Kantor
on the line or with some guidance from him on our direction.

Sorry about the late notice.

Stuart
