All,
Based on our preliminary evaluation of Common Component Architecture (CCA)
frameworks
and conversations with framework authors/developers, we believe SCIRun2 is
likely the most
feature rich and best aligned framework for LSST. Should we discover in
testing/prototype
development that there are problems, we may advocate a different baseline
framework. As
was also noted, it may turn out that the CCA SciDAC funding terminates this
summer,
in which case we may need to carry on next stage development
independently. Based on
the overall utility and usefulness of the CCA paradigm, I suspect work on
the CCA
component architecture will continue in some form regardless of SciDAC
funding.
