Michelle Data Management status report for 4/22/06 - 5/15/06

Accomplishments/Meetings
------------------------
Participated with Middleware Working Group and smaller group to make
recommendation for communication middleware for intra-stage pipeline
communication. Jeff decided he wanted a CCA framework. I investigated
and wrote up SCIRun2. Suggested making a comparison matrix. Final
recommendation was SCIRun2. I've requested an early copy of software.
Investigating logging utility for DC1 based on syslog that will work for a
distributed system (syslog-ng). Got syslog working on local machine,
then
with two machines. Next will be to swap in syslog-ng code. I've
downloaded it. It's a bit complicated to configure, so I bought a book
to
help. syslog and syslog-ng require root access to configure.
Issues
------
I'm not clear on the big picture of the DC1 work. Is there more
documentation than Ray's original plan and the gantt chart?
