I forgot to mention that another important topic on the June 26 concall was Chris Smith's update on discussions with a potential long-haul network carrier.
As I understand it, there are 2 major concerns:
1. The possible carrier seems to wish that LSST networking costs
somewhat subsidize other users of the network. (bad idea)
2. The carrier prefers that we do not use our bandwidth in a bursty nature. I dont
understand the carrier's reason for this but Chris Smith can explain it.
The result is that we should review what bandwidth we really need back to the US and examine possibilities to spread out our bandwidth needs to reduce the bursts.
