This is better news.  I'll note that I misspoke at the telecon: assuming 1 
TB disks, our construction storage purchase called for 3600 disks--not 
that far off from the 4400 you site.

I may be showing my ignorance here, but wouldn't the increased capacity 
more than cover the RAID overheads?  That is, if all usuable data is 
spread out over all disks in a, say, 5 disk RAID array, you still get the 
benefit of all five read heads (even though you lose capacity), yes?
