Hi all -
For my work with the SDSS-II Supernova Search, I have been collaborating with the VOEvent
Network (http://voevent.net/) to release SDSS VOEvent packets. The VOE group is developing Virtual
Observatory standards for transient events, and also running a subscription service that we are
submitting our candidates to. Our qualifications for submission are at least 2 epochs of
observation (to avoid solar system objects) and classification by a "hand-scanner" as supernova-like
(primarily to avoid variable stars); so the classification is manual, the event submission then
proceeds automatically, driven by our time domain database. We finally have this up and running,
and ended up doing a lot of system shake-down in the process.
Andrew Drake from Caltech has set up a nice web page providing an
interface to our feed below
http://voeventnet.caltech.edu/SDSS.shtml
Its a bit too much information for a person to parse, but the idea is to set up a completely
automated infrastructure between the surveys and followup resources. I anticipate that LSST will
make heavy use of (and potentially overwhelm!) this system.
Cheers,
Andy
