Honestly, I would agree. Most of the services require a server to centralize data. Given my experience has mostly been Mastodon and PeerTube. I still use OwnCloud, and not NextCloud, which is a derivative.
FreeNest, I think is what they are aiming for. It’s a server based on user interaction, but p2p on information, so if you post and people download it will still propagate throughout the network as long as it’s still alive. Though with the whole centralized blockchain deal he’s talking about would lead to tracking back to the poster, which is exactly what dissidents would not want, so this seems a bit like vaporware imho.
