Use of RPM transactions to restart OpenLDAP (see r410) ---------------------------------------- Bug #788: OpenLDAP RPM: Restart slapd service after upgrade http://tools.lsc-project.org/issues/788 Author: Jens Vagelpohl Status: Closed Priority: Normal Assigned to: Clément OUDOT Category: OpenLDAP RPM Target version: openldap-rpm-2.4.43 When the RPM for the standard distribution-supplied server processes such as Apache, MariaDB, etc. is updated via "yum update" the server process is restarted if it was running before the update. The OpenLDAP-LTB RPM, however, does not restart the server process. This makes it unpractical to use automatic updates from the LTB yum repository because manual intervention is required. It is true that some deployments may need manual control over service startup or shutdown during an upgrade, but the vast majority of your RPM users will be served much better if the LTB RPM behaved like any other standard RPM and restarted the slapd daemon if it was running before the upgrade. I have been caught several times when the RPM had been updated by the nighly yum run and all my sites and mail delivery had become unavailable because slapd was dead. -- You have received this notification because you have either subscribed to it, or are involved in it.
