This is really not a bug but a characteristic of the lcov release process.
When lcov was added to the LTP CVS we decided to minimize the number of
check-ins by leaving the CVS version information untouched. When a new
release is made, 'make dist' is called to update the version information in
the resulting release files. These files are then provided for download.

Now I agree that in recent times, the CVS version was referenced quite
often and it may be time to adjust the process. I will take your suggestion
into consideration for a change at some point in time but I don't agree
that this is treated as a bug therefore, closing this bug report.

Subrata,

why did you close it. Have a look at:
http://ltp.cvs.sourceforge.net/ltp/utils/analysis/lcov/Makefile?revision=1.7&view=markup
Its not fixed yet.

I added
bin/updateversion.pl $(PREFIX)/usr $(VERSION) $(DATE) $(RELEASE)
to my install target. Not perfect as it does not find the man pages, but
at least the cvs build installs binaries with correct version.

Shouldn't that be done by 'make install'?

This is not a real issue. The script in the RPM files as well as the
released .tar.gz files all contain an updated version string. If you're
working with the CVS version, do a "make dist" and use the files from the
resulting .tar.gz file where the version string will be correctly replaced.
