which is why i'd prefer not to change anything.  if we move to modify code so 
that it works under XXXX shell, then we're simply regressing to what autoconf 
does -- portable sh which is large and bloated.  dont get me wrong ... i'm 
not saying autoconf is bad as the job it does is a very real and necessary 
one, i'm just saying it is not suited to LTP.
