no, the kernel doesnt matter. if your glibc version is old and doesnt support the splice() function, the build will fail. > This patch adds a workaround from splice01.c to splice02.c. your change doesnt cover all cases. like when the kernel headers dont define __NR_splice. better to add an autoconf function test. -mike
