Okay, I think I'm getting my head around this, but let's check just for fun. :)
When setting up an X environment for users, choices for the following components need to be made: 1) display manager: XDM, GDM (Gnome) or KDM (KDE) 2) window manager : Sawfish (Gnome), KDE, IceWM, others Are there other components that play a major role in the user environment? I'm thinking especially of resource usage here. How much impact does the display manager have? I think I'll use IceWM, so is there a display manager that works better with it? If I use gdm and IceWM, and then start up a KDE app like kppp, what sort of overhead is there? Am I better off using only Gnome apps from a resource usage point of view? Lots of questions!
