I had some matter like this today but I guess it was my idled that work
this way... (killing my java app launched from an xterm in remote mode
by killing the xterm)

HAven't tried OpenOffice for linux yet, but tried for Windows. and it
works quiet better than staroffice5.2.
You may try it.
