Your server sounds OK, but If your clients are 486 with 4Mb Ram and 10Mb 
Nics, they will be ok for use as character terminals (telnet, etc), but 
If you want to use X-Windows GUI clients, you should be looking at least 
at Pentium/celeron/cyrix  processors, with 32MB Ram and 100Mb NIC.

Your rtl8139 Nics may be dual 10/100MB anyway, in which case they'll be 
ok.

We tried running 486 boxes with 4Mb RAM & 10MB NICS's but it proved much 
too slow for X-Windows applications.
