Yep the nfsd jobs are running. All 8 of them.

Infact, I am able to mount these from a normally booted linux system. The problem arises while trying to boot the diskless workstation using boot floppy.

In addition, I am encountering very strange problems with /tftpboot directory. Sometimes I can't access it, /ltsbin is never created and it is very difficult to rm this directory.

I am also having some mount problems on the server itself.
A showmount -e once gave me the following error:

"rpcmount export: RPC: Unable to receive; errorno=connection refused.

I also get this error while booting the system.

Secondly, I wish to find out if the boot code i have downloaded to my floppy is ok. It boots, gets the IP from server, downloads vmlinux.rtl8139 (Realtek NIC) using TFTP, gives message of loading kernel and finally stops while trying to load NFS volume.

I hope the code i downloaded eb-5.0.3-rtl8029.lzdsk has the mount command to try load the NFS volume or what?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Check you server processes.  ps -ax
Generally there should be about 8 jobs listed as '[nfsd]' if you have nfs running.

Subject: [Ltsp-discuss] NFS related problem

Hello All.

I am trying to setup diskless workstations. I have downloaded the packages from ltsp.org including the manual for setting up. I have followed the instructions to the letter but for some reason the xsvga server is not being installed in /tftpboot/lts/ltsroot directory. Infact the ltsbin directory is non-existent.

My workstation is able to get the IP from the server and the initial kernel rtl8139.vmlinuz by tftp. However it is unable to get the NFS volumes and gives the following errors:

IP-Config No network devices available
Root-NFS      No NFS server available giving up
VFS : Unable to mount root fs via NFS trying floppy
VFS: Cannot open root device 02:00
Kernel Panic : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 02:00

I am using a boot floppy and dhcp. The documentation attributes the above error to "possible failure to detect IRQ line"

However, the system is able to detect the NIC.

The server side should be ok as i have set up the /etc/exports and /etc/fstab after consulting many books.

I would be obliged if someone could help me out.
Thanks
