Thanks, you reminded me that a little while ago Jim McQuillan suggested I
put a link to the PCI IDs file for Etherboot on http://rom-o-matic.net/
I just did that for the latest development release
(http://rom-o-matic.net/5.0.4-mc3/). Thanks for reminding me, and thanks
to Jim McQuillan for the original suggestion.

ROM burning can be a little confusing and intimidating in the beginning,
but don't worry. It's really pretty easy once you know a few basic
things.

For some background, check out:

   http://etherboot.sourceforge.net/doc/html/userman-7.html

which gives some basic ROM burning information.

Now, what you want is a .lzrom file to burn into your EPROM. The big
question is "which .lzrom file should I choose?".

To figure this out, you need to know the PCI IDs of the card you are
using. There are a number of ways to figure this out. If you're using
GNU/Linux, the easiest way is probably to use the "lspci -n" command. If
you don't have lspci, you can either download the RPM/deb/tarball from
somewhere (it's tiny), or you can do:

   cat /proc/bus/pci/devices

to get the raw bus information, and find your device. The second column
is where the PCI IDs are. Match those digits (2 sets of 4 hex digits)
with what you find at:

   http://rom-o-matic.net/5.0.4-mc3/src-5.0.4-mc3/NIC

and you've found your ROM. For example for a 3c905b-tpo100 you'd be
looking for:

   10b79055

You can also visit the Etherboot home page at:

   http://etherboot.sourceforge.net/

and read the Etherboot Users Guide online. You may also want to join the
Etherboot-Users mailing list, where we engage in lively discussions of
such exciting topics as:

   - ROM burning
   - Network Booting
   - Device Drivers

We also help people who are having trouble getting started. The list is
low volume, and the people are friendly.

I hope this helps you get started, let us know how it goes.
