I got a number of responses back from my question regarding the XDM too many
retransmissions problem I was having. Here's how I finally solved it. After
looking at the xdm startup script on my machine (SuSE 7.3, with ltsp 2.08) I
saw what seemed to be xdm actually starting kdm (which was good, cause I like
kdm better, and had been advised to use it anyway). This was confirmed by
looking at the suseconfig settings in /etc. Anyway, to get things working, I
changed a line my kdmrc file. the line was in the XDMCP section of the file,
and I changed the "Enable" value from true to false. That was it, and all
was well.
now for a question regarding my solution: though this worked, I'd like to
know if this is the "right" way to solve the problem I was having. (and
after checking all config files and looking at example config files that
others have posted, I'm fairly confident that none of those files were
misconfigured and causing the problem).
many thanks for the helpful replies.
