It could be that your kdmrc (I assume you use kdm) has been overwritten. On 
Red Hat Linux you usually find it under /usr/share/config/kdm/ If you're 
lucky, the old one has been saved as kdmrc.rpmsave or somesuch. If not, it's 
easy enough to change as it's quite well commented.

If you use the kontrol panel in kde, that's not updated to take into account 
kdmrc's new features. It actually overwrites the original kdmrc and it's 
lost. I can send you a new one if it is.

It could be something else, but try this.
