I would use a better tool than gkrellm to monitor nw load.  But a simple 
solution would be to get your configuration correct and this "problem" 
goes away.

hehe you aint seen network traffic till 200 machines are running KDE or 
Gnome with A couple of runaway Netscapes and Xscreensaver up on about 50 
machines.  What you are seeing now is trivial.
