Tom,

I am pretty sure that I am that other user that Appgen was talking about.
Unfortunatly, I don't have a solution for you.

While I was trying to get a working solution, our accountants decided that
MyBooks was not robust enough for our business.

If I recall correctly I felt like I was making progress with LTSP & LOCAL
APPS with a shell script on the server to launch autoag.sh. However that
wasn't enough.

It was my thought that I needed to install the JRE on the client machines
for the windows to be drawn correctly, or hack the ag*.sh scripts so that
they pass the $DISPLAY variable to each other, hoping a remote display would
actually work!

 I had also thought of installing Mybooks differently. Installing a
standalone server on a network box (or the ltsp server), and then installing
the linux client locally on the LTSP workstations. I never tried this.

That was as far as I had gotten when I got the word to drop the project.

Sorry I can't be of anymore help, I'd really like to know if you get this
working.

mybooks.sh:
AGHOME=/usr/appgen
export AGHOME
HOST=`echo $DISPLAY | awk -F: '{print $1 }'`
rsh ${HOST} /usr/appgen/autoag.sh ${DISPLAY}

Subject: [Ltsp-discuss] Appgen MyBooks on Thin Client

Appgen has a financial accounting system called MyBooks written in Java and
running on multiple platforms. I've installed it on a RH7.0 and a RH7.2
server each running LTSP 3.0.

When MyBook starts it puts up a splash screen, and after 30 seconds or so a
menu screen. Running on the server, these screens appear normal. Running
on two different LTSP thin clients machine, the splash screens appear as a
gray boxs and the menu screens only have the text which is at the very top.
All XF86 video parameters are set to 1024x768 and 16 bit color depth.

The RH7.0 server is running XFS for connected workstations the other is
not. The availability of XFS makes no difference in the appearance of the
MyBooks screens.

Tech support people at Appgen are aware of this phenomenon. They said that
they had heard of it from one other user. I think it is an LTSP issue
rather than an Appgen problem, although they, of course, appreciate the need
for a solution.

A demo version of MyBooks can be downloaded from www.appgen.com. That's the
version I just tested on the RH7.2 system.

I will appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced this problem and
has an idea or a solution.
