XSERVER            = XF86_servername
If the value of XSERVER starts with XF86, the terminal will use XFree86
ver3.

How long does this black screen last? Usually, if there's a problem
with your X setup, the server will restart 10 times, then you will get
an error on the screen.

You can look at the logs on the server (/var/log/messages, for example)
to see what's happening.

Try telling the terminal to start at runlevel 3, then run
/tmp/start_ws. This will start the GUI manually; if it fails, you
should see an error on the screen after a minute.
