Our SETI team has setup 2 "large" diskless arrays to crunch seti
workunits. Some pictures and documentation is scattered about the 
site. Just look for the key word 'Stompinator' and some stuff should
pop up. They both use LTSP with WINE and a NT-CLI app to crunch the 
units under LOCAL_APPS=Y.  It works great and is faster than any 
Microsoft OS do to the better memory management of LINUX.

We will probably put this on our soon to be launch hardware site.
