When I first set up my ltsp network I used a 10Mbit hub, worked just
great. I then bought a 10/100 switch which I connected to the server and
a couple of other thin clients, this worked even better, as expected. I
then connected the switch to the hub for another couple of thin clients,
worked fine. I eventually replaced the hub with a 10/100 switch and was
surprised when the boot failed about half way through. So I messed
around for a while trying to work out what was going on, no joy until I
decided to have a look at the mode that the network card was in. The
cards that I use are Belkin which use rtl8139 chipset. They come with a
CD Rom and or a floppy disk with the setup program on it. I booted a dos
disk and ran setup. I changed the card to 100Mbit half duplex and set tx
enable rx enable and it worked! I eventually had a look a the card in
the server and found out it was set to half duplex, so this a good place
to start looking. My current setup is an Intel 10/100 card in the Server
which I have setup to default to 100 Mbit Full duplex and I have changed
the Belkin cards to auto negotiate and rx disable tx disable, works
perfectly. Hope this helps.
