I've got it running under Mandrake 8.2 using the rpms. I initially had problems with booting LTSP workstations primarily because of the programs the server that were not installed by default. I installed using level 4 (high security) so the packages also are not started by default.
Check if you have all the required packages and if they are all running. among those, you'll need: dhcp-server tftp-server telnet-server-krb5 nfs then check if they have been started or enabled during bootup. /sbin/chkconfig --list God bless.
