Sean, The problem we had with init was because of the glibc on the server was for an i686, but the workstations were pentiums and smaller. they couldn't run those libs.
Now, you've compiled a static init, so init is loading, but chances are that the programs that are spawned from inittab are also running into glibc arch issues. You'll either need to use the i386 libs for the workstations, or statically compile all of the programs that need to run on the workstation.
