Daniel,

I eliminated the KDE and Gnome desktops and I moved to the IceWM 
window manager.  It has a small foot print, dynamic menus based 
on user rights and no user accessable setup at all.

In case you need more details, just let me know and I'll be 
happy to provide them to you and to the LTSP community.
