You could force a particular resolution by specifying a modeline in
LTS.CONF.

  You should check the X server's startup messages.  Maybe the modelines of
the resolutions you selected are found to be incompatible with the video
card
you have and are discarded in favor of some other fallback
modeline/resolution.
