There was a problem with the sis900 NIC module in LTSP kernel 3.0+, get the latest one as it is based on 2.4.18 which is supposed to work with those NICs.
linuxrc is part of the initram disk. It is in the ltsp_initrd_kit package which is not required to run LTSP.
