The newer psu's seem to be much more sensitive to bad power. When the power 
fluctuates and heads south, it takes the mobo (and occasionally the drives) 
with it. I've had to put a ups on each of my machines that use atx supplies. 
The at supplies seem to be rock solid. Almost 8 years on most of them.
