Thanks for the tip.  I had to modify it a bit to get it to work.
Here's my start-up script:

setterm -powersave off -powerdown 0 -blank 0
setterm -store

Not exactly sure that these will work at start-up (can't reboot my
server!), but these commands do disable screen blanking when entered
at the console.  I think "-powerdown 0" is redundant, but "-blank 0"
is not.  Also it may be necessary it add "> /dev/tty12" (the console
which I'm logging to) in the start-up script.
