Please be sure that your network traffic is reasonable.
One easy way to estimate traffic is to use /sbin/ifconfig -a
on the server and on the clients (if you know how to login to client).

I know fore sure with 10 Mb network a couple of clients with
fancy screensavers can slow down network and slow down
the whole system as a result.
